This course provides first year students with a general introduction to Phonetics. It focuses on Articulatory Phonetics. This branch deals with the production of speech sounds and the mechanism by which these sounds are produced, in addition to the definition, classification, and the description of English consonant sounds. It also deals with  English vowel sounds and how they are produced. The course gives an overview of basic concepts and terminology within phonetics and phonology, combined with practical exercises.
