Course Description and Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to introduce third year students to milestones that shaped the American history in the mid-18th century up to the first half of the 19th century, ranging primarily from the American Revolution (1776-1783) up to the creation of the New Republic (1790-1820). The objectives of both lectures and lecture sections are set at the very beginning of every lecture.

The course provides a balanced approach to U.S. history, considering the people, events, and ideas that have shaped the United States. It covers key forces that form the American experience. It also covers the breadth of the chronological history of the United States and provides the necessary depth to ensure that the course is manageable for third year LMD students. It achieves equilibrium between the various political, social, and cultural dynamics that permeate history.

It aims at keeping a chronological sequence of historical events as it helps students follow straightforwardly the lectures and connect between them. It also helps avoiding history gaps between the first, second and third year of studies of American culture and civilization.
