  • Food legislation is a constantly evolving field that covers a wide range of topics, from regulations on ingredients to labeling standards to rules regarding food safety. In Algeria, Law No. 09-03 of February 25, 2009, amended, concerning consumer protection and the fraud repression, serves as a working tool introducing general principles and provisions to ensure the sanitary safety of food products. It aims to guarantee the safety of foodstuffs to protect consumer health and ensure the food products traceability . This law is implemented by the Algerian Institute of Standardization (IANOR).

It is important for companies exporting food products to the EU to comply with EU standards regarding food safety and understand the current regulatory requirements, such as Regulation (EU) No. 1169/2011 on consumer information, Regulation (EU) No. 178/2002 on food safety, and Regulation (EU) No. 852/2004 on food hygiene. This ensures that they provide safe food products that adhere to the prevailing standards. Companies must also comply with allergen labeling requirements under Regulation (EU) No. 1169/2011.

It is crucial for businesses to stay informed about the latest regulations and standards in their field, adhere to regulatory requirements, and establish effective compliance systems to ensure that their food products are safe and in compliance with the current standards.
