International balance is a
European means of maintaining peace, which appeared after the Peace of
Westphalia. It involves countries coming together to prevent any country from
expanding at the expense of another country or countries, as happened when
European countries entered into a war with France when its king, Louis XIV,
tried to expand his possessions at the expense of his neighbors. The imperial
system was revived again, and the war ended with the conclusion of the Treaty
of Utrecht in 1713 AD, which explicitly stipulated the principle of European
balance. According to it, Europe was re-divided in order to preserve the peace
and security of Christendom.
التوازن الدولي وسيلة أوربية لحفظ السلم، ظهرت بعد سلام وستفاليا، مفادها أن تتكاثف الدول للحيلولة دون أن تتوسع أية دولة على حساب دولة أو دول أخرى، كما حدث عندما دخلت دول أوربا في حرب مع فرنسا حين حاول ملكها لويس الـ 14 توسيع أملاكه على حساب جيرانه وإحياء النظام الإمبراطوري من جديد، وانتهت الحرب بإبرام معاهدة أوتراخت سنة 1713 م، التي نصت صراحة على مبدأ التوازن الأوربي؛ حيث أعيد تقسيم أوربا وفقا له، بما يحفظ سلام وأمن العالم المسيحي.
