English is the universal form of communication in science; it is the most important language for biologists because it is the language of science. It is used in the majority of scientific publications, conferences, and international collaborations.

Mastering English allows biologists to access and understand a large variety of biological sources. In fact, biologists need to be able to read, write, and speak English fluently in order to keep up with the latest research and communicate their own findings.

Technical Communication and Expression is a comprehensive course designed to supply students with the essential English language skills necessary to effectively communicate within the vigorous field of biology.

The course explores the scientific text structure, describe various text types and their defining characteristics. Students are then guided through the appropriate methods of analyzing scientific texts in English, equipping them with the tools to critically evaluate and interpret biological research.

Complementing this foundation in scientific literacy, the course introduces students to the vast realm of scientific terminology, encompassing key terms from diverse branches of biology such as biochemistry, zoology, genetics, taxonomy, and ecology. Students will not only gain familiarity with these terms but also explore the principal sources from which they are derived, ensuring accurate and consistent usage within scientific text.

Recognizing the pivotal role of bibliographical research in scientific inquiry, the course furnishes students with the skills necessary to conduct rigorous literature searches for scientific papers. This includes identifying and evaluating relevant sources, employing citation software, and crafting well-structured annotated bibliographies. Additionally, students will gain in-depth knowledge of scientific report writing, mastering the appropriate methods and conventions for disseminating their research findings effectively.
