  • About the course

    • The course Waves and Vibrations introduces the fundamental principles governing oscillatory and wave phenomena in physical systems. These concepts are essential in many areas of engineering and physics, including mechanics, electronics, signal processing, and materials science.

      This course provides students with the theoretical and practical tools needed to analyze mechanical vibrations, wave propagation, and dynamic systems. It covers topics such as harmonic motion, energy methods, damping, forced oscillations, and wave behavior in different media.

      Learning Objectives:

      The overall competency targeted by this course is: To be able to analyze, model, and interpret vibrational and wave phenomena in physical systems, and to apply these concepts to real-world engineering and scientific problems.

      This is a complex competency that you will progressively develop by acquiring knowledge, practicing skills, and adopting a professional scientific mindset.

  • Learning Outcomes

    • At the end of this course the student should:

      • Understand the fundamental concepts of oscillations (definition, periodicity, parameters).
      • Apply the equations of motion for a harmonic oscillator.
      • Analyze the effects of damping and external forces.
      • Evaluate resonance conditions and their consequences.
      • Apply wave equations in different media.
      • Analyze reflection, transmission, and interference phenomena.
      • Create simplified models of vibrational or wave systems.

  • Perquisites:

    • The student should be able to:

      • Solve problems using Newtonian mechaniccs (Physics I).
      • Solve problems involving electric circuits (Physics II).
      • Calculate deriviative , integrals ,and solve differential equations (Mathematics I & II).
